Business Seeds for the Taking

Image
Many people dream of starting their own business. Running an enterprise in your home, garage or on the go means you can take more control over your professional goals, set more ambitious financial targets and achieve a more desirable work-life balance. But what if you’re ready to start a business but don’t know what type of services to provide? You’ve come to the right place if you need profitable business ideas. Every day I'll drop and idea— from financial services to physical labor and creative contracting — to help you chart a path forward. Eban Pagan once told me that if I wanted a lot of business ideas, I should make an effort to give them away. Here we are.

Flip Furniture: One Piece per Weekend

 Intro

You don’t need a workshop or a big investment to start making money with your hands. Old furniture is everywhere — on curbs, in thrift stores, and in Facebook Marketplace listings for $10. With a little creativity, you can turn discarded pieces into income.

The Idea
The model is simple: find one piece of old furniture each week, give it new life, and sell it locally. A fresh coat of paint, new handles, or creative distressing can turn a $20 dresser into a $120 sale. Even one flip per weekend can cover bills, add savings, or fund other projects.

How to Start

  • Step 1: Scout Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or local buy-nothing groups for solid-wood pieces.

  • Step 2: Clean, sand, and refinish with inexpensive supplies — paint, hardware, and sealant.

  • Step 3: Take bright, natural-light photos and list on Facebook Marketplace or OfferUp.

  • Step 4: Use seasonal colors or minimalist looks — they sell fastest.

  • Step 5: Reinvest part of your profit into better tools and higher-quality flips.

My Take
Furniture flipping is one of the most satisfying small hustles because you can see your progress. It builds both creative skill and market sense — you learn what styles move and what people will pay for quality. Over time, it can evolve from a weekend hobby into a small design brand.
